I often help members of the community, civil society, and industry on a range of issues. I help individuals and groups navigate issues related to online harassment. I regularly speak at law firm and industry events on LGBTQ+ legal matters, including as a keynote speaker on Coming Out Day, World AIDS Day, and Pride Month events. Based on my book, Industry Unbound, several companies have hired me to help design their internal privacy departments. I have served served as an expert witness in privacy-related litigation.

EXPERT WITNESS

I have been retained as an expert witness on many cases. I provide ongoing advice and ideas about litigation strategy. I also have written many expert reports opining on issues related to privacy law, privacy policies, the social and psychological forces that are involved in disclosure, the ways in which platform design manipulates individuals to disclose information, and much more. In this expert capacity, I have been deposed, testified at trial, and been cross examined by counsel.

CONSULTING

Consulting can take many forms. My pro bono consulting practice usually involves helping LGBTQ+ nonprofit advocacy organizations, writing amicus briefs, and arguing before appellate courts. I have also been hired by law firms and many different kinds of companies to help structure their privacy practices, advise on ongoing privacy and antitrust issues, and assess internal data protection practices.
